mouth ulcer

Recurrent oral ulcers are the most common ulcerative lesions. Oral ulcers are related to genetic factors, immune dysfunction, bacterial infections, systemic diseases, trace element deficiencies, local trauma, and degree of mucosal keratinization.

We can treat related diseases by supplementing vitamins and trace elements, immune enhancers, traditional Chinese medicine, local anti-inflammatory application, and other methods.

Oral ulcers are not only caused by a lack of vitamin B2
Oral ulcer is the most susceptible disease of oral mucosa, and its incidence rate ranks third in oral diseases, only next to caries and periodontitis.

Iron and zinc deficiency in the body can cause oral ulcers

Recurrent oral ulcers belong to polygenic inherited diseases. When the body experiences gastrointestinal dysfunction, menstrual disorders, a lack of trace elements such as iron and zinc, mental stress, fatigue, or colds, oral ulcers can be induced. Therefore, treatment with vitamin B2 alone is ineffective, and there is currently no cure for this disease.

Suffering from oral ulcers, one can eat more foods rich in vitamins, proteins, and fiber, pay attention to balancing work and rest, and eliminate triggering factors to reduce recurrence.

Excessive psychological pressure can lead to oral ulcers

Excessive anxiety, tension, and stress can easily lead to autoimmune disorders, resulting in oral ulcers.

Oral ulcers may be related to tumors
In summer, many people are troubled by oral ulcers. For this common disease, many people associate it with excessive heat and heat, but little do they know that oral ulcers have many causes and may also be a manifestation of malignant tumors.

Oral ulcers can also be classified into different types, with the most common being recurrent oral ulcers. During the attack, the oral mucosa necrosis occurs, forming oral ulcers. The larger the ulcer site, the more painful it becomes, but it is self limiting and can naturally heal within 7-10 days. Ulcers can occur in any part of the mucosa, usually in the buccal mucosa, tongue, and lips that frequently move. Therefore, the pain during the attack is very obvious, and coupled with continuous recurrence, it has a great impact on the patient's work and life.

Oral ulcers occur all year round, but are particularly common among patients in summer. From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, poor mood, sleep, and diet are all contributing factors to the development of oral ulcers. In summer, the weather is hot and people are prone to irritability and excitement, which can lead to poor appetite and trouble sleeping. They are either unable to sleep or easily wake up. These physical imbalances can easily trigger oral ulcers, so oral ulcers tend to concentrate every summer.

Many people believe that oral ulcers are an inflammatory disease and it doesn't matter whether they go to the hospital or not. Taking some anti-inflammatory drugs will naturally cure them. But among the numerous oral ulcers, there are a few that do not belong to recurrent oral ulcers, including tuberculosis ulcers and syphilis ulcers, and they do not heal on their own. Even some oral ulcers are early manifestations of malignant tumors such as tongue cancer, gum cancer, and cheek mucosal cancer from the beginning. If this type of ulcer is ignored or treated as inflammation based on one's own experience, it will inevitably delay the condition, accelerate the spread, and have unimaginable consequences.

Ulcers that persist for a long time are prone to developing into cancer
In fact, it is relatively easy to distinguish between recurrent ulcers commonly seen in daily life and oral ulcers caused by tumors. The former has a round shape, feels soft to the touch, recurs repeatedly, and usually heals in about a week. The latter presents an irregular shape, and hard lumps can be felt around and at the base of the ulcer. Early pain is not obvious, but it develops rapidly and cannot be cured for a long time. In addition, persistent ulcers in the oral cavity may develop into cancer over time due to frequent stimulation from chewing and speaking. The parts that come into contact with the teeth, due to improper production, have sharp edges that constantly stimulate and scrape the mucosa, causing ulcers. If the stimulating factors are not removed, ulcers will not heal, but will only worsen. This long-lasting ulcer is a precancerous lesion that is highly susceptible to cancer.

Three precautions for prevention and treatment of oral ulcers

**Oral ulcers are not necessarily caused by internal heat

When encountering oral ulcers, most people rely on "treating internal heat" by drinking herbal tea and taking anti-inflammatory drugs, which is somewhat one-sided. The etiology of oral ulcers is still unclear, and there are many factors related to the disease, including psychological and social factors, genetic factors, infectious factors, nutritional deficiencies, etc. Drinking herbal tea cannot solve the problem in these situations.

**Excessive diet can also lead to oral ulcers

Overeating in urban areas is also related to the occurrence of oral ulcers. Taking rice as an example, its skin contains vitamin B2 and trace element zinc. However, rice processors remove the surface of the rice to make it look white and have a good taste, resulting in the loss of these nutrients. Eating too much of this rice lacks these nutrients and is prone to oral ulcers. Therefore, doctors remind people to eat more vegetables and fruits, supplement with vitamin B2 and zinc gluconate.

**Recurrent ulcers are related to immunity

For recurrent oral ulcers, most people use topical medications to treat them. Due to the lack of targeted causes, even if they are temporarily effective, they will recur in the future. Recurrent oral ulcers are closely related to immunity. Some patients present with immunodeficiency, while others exhibit autoimmune disorders. In addition, anemia, picky eating, indigestion, diarrhea, fever, excessive fatigue, high work pressure, and changes in menstrual cycle are also triggering factors. With the activity, alternation, and overlap of one or more factors, there is a decrease in the body's immune system and immune dysfunction, which leads to frequent attacks of oral ulcers.
